February 26, 2019 - Every year in February, the tech world looks at Barcelona. The Mobile World Congress (short: MWC) is the world's most important mobile communications convention and no longer just the Mecca for smartphone enthusiasts: 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Fintech, Health, IoT and Automotive - this year's MWC covers a broad field of innovation. Daimler Financial Services is also present with its own products and topics.
A global player for urban mobility
Just a few days ago, Daimler and the BMW Group officially bundled their mobility services in a joint venture. This included Daimler's mobility offers from Daimler Financial Services. At MWC, the new board of management team led by the managing directors Olivier Reppert (SHARE NOW), Marc Berg (FREE NOW), Dr. Daniela Gerd (REACH NOW) and Jörg Reimann (CHARGE NOW / PARK NOW) will make their first appearance after the launch. In a panel discussion with CNBC presenter Karen Tso, Huwai board member Guo Ping, IOC president Thomas Bach, and Smart Dubai director Dr. Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, the group will discuss the topic "Intelligent Connectivity: The Great Enabler".
Mobility apps as daily companions
In cooperation with the BMW Group, we now enable around 60 million customers to enjoy a new experience of mobility. To continuously improve our offerings and make access even easier for our customers, we maintain an intensive exchange with exhibitors and visitors at MWC.
We drive innovation forward
In connection with our purpose "We Move You" we also present our Startup Intelligence Center (short: SIC) in Barcelona. With the SIC, we want to support young start-ups and entrepreneurs with our know-how and network. Daimler's ecosystem serves as an interface for innovations, technology, and potential customers. Thanks to our many years of experience and the promotion of numerous start-ups, we offer the perfect platform to turn innovative ideas into reality.
Our Urban Mobility Team makes cities smart
Quieter, cleaner and greener! With all our technologies and innovations we pursue the goal of a Smart City. A city that improves people's lives through efficiency, technological progress, environmentally-friendly resource management, and social inclusion. Mobility, in particular, poses a major challenge in this context. Our Urban Mobility Team supports cities and municipalities in the expansion of their mobility solutions and stands by them as a competent partner. Daniel Deparis, Head of Urban Mobility, will present our ideas and concepts at the MWC on Wednesday (27 February 2019).
Smartphones and services go hand in hand
More than ten years ago, we recognized the enormous potential of smartphone apps for services and offerings. Back then, we chose the smartphone as the central hub for our mobility services. Today, this approach includes not only our mobility services but also our traditional financing and leasing businesses. The most recent example is CoverOn. CoverOn enables our customers to quickly insure additional drivers using their cars. Insurance and payment are completely digital, conveniently via smartphone while on the move or at home - whether for a short weekend trip, a move or a quick trip to the hardware store.
The fintech industry gathers together
As a financial services provider and holding company of Mercedes-Benz Bank, we want to give our customers flexible and, above all, secure access to our services. In order to meet these demands in the future, we will continue to play a pioneering role with our innovations in the field of financial technology. We see it as our duty to keep our finger on the pulse of the times with our products and services, especially when it comes to security. The MWC is the perfect opportunity to exchange information on the latest developments in the Fintech industry.
Digital travel companion for more road safety
Speaking of security! For the first time in Barcelona, we present a Proof of Concept for an app that combines behavioral and personal data from smartphones and wearable with real-time data such as traffic data. As a digital travel companion, the app supports the driver with individual recommendations for long car journeys. Factors include the driver's personal fitness level and bedtime the night before. This makes it a digital supplement to the ATTENTION ASSIST tiredness warning system from Mercedes-Benz, which is already fitted as standard.
Electronic innovations become mobile
The automobile of the future combines numerous MWC topics: Artificial intelligence, faster data connections (5G), space-saving and high-resolution displays, voice control assistants, innovations in smartphones and wearables (mini computers). We focus on all these areas with our offerings and offer our customers the best personal solutions to get from A to B as conveniently and flexible as possible.
